Souness: Roo must go abroad

- BY DARREN LEWIS BY MIKE WALTERS

Sky Sports will show the biggest games in the Premier League run-in, including Tottenham v Arsenal on April 30, the Manchester derby and Manchester United v Chelsea GRAEME SOUNESS has warned Wayne Rooney is past his sell-by date as an automatic selection at top Premier League clubs – and advised him to go abroad.

Jilted Rooney has lost his place as a regular starter for both Manchester United and England in the last six months.

And Souness, one of football’s most assertive pundits, believes he will not be able to join another club with top-six ambitions because he wouldn’t be good enough to get a game for them, either.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic back from suspension, Rooney looks certain to be on the bench tonight when Everton visit Old Trafford.

Souness said: “Rooney loves his football and I would imagine he would want to go somewhere where he will play regularly because this will have been his worst season in football. He just hasn’t played enough games.

“From being the captain and first name on the teamsheet for club and country to this... it will be very hurtful for him and I can’t see him accepting it.

“For his next move, he is big enough to say ‘I want to be guaranteed I’m playing every week’ – but no big club will accept that demand, so it is more likely he will go abroad.”
