MARTIAL TOLD: WE NEED TO SEE MOUR

- BY SIMON BIRD

Man Utd v Anderlecht Europa League quarter-final second leg, kick-off 8.05pm JOSE MOURINHO has warned struggling striker Anthony Martial that time is running out for him to prove he has a future at Manchester United.

The £36million Frenchman (above) did not even make the bench for the win over Chelsea on Sunday and is facing a fight to get his career back on track.

Mourinho says Martial, 21, must take a leaf out of fellow frontman Marcus Rashford’s book and learn quickly what the manager

wants from his players. The Portuguese said: “Is Anthony a player with great potential? Yes. Can he play for success with me? Yes, but he needs to give things for me that I like.

“We have been together for almost 10 months. The same way that I know the players better now, the players they should know me much better now.

“The same way I know what the players like, I think the players also know what I like.

“The same way I have to go in the direction of the players, they also have to come in my direction and that is the point.

“That is why Marcus Rashford (right) even without scoring, even when he hadn’t scored in the Premier League, even without that, he is always a player I trust, I play and support.

“He was always coming in my direction for what I want from a Manchester United player. It is about getting to know each other better and better and go in the direction of things I like.”

Another out-of-favour striker, Wayne Rooney, is hoping for the all-clear after an ankle injury.

Mourinho said: “He is working now and improving. He is having a training session and, if the answer is positive, I will select him to be on the bench tomorrow and his experience is important.”
