27 A&E trips for ‘superboy’ who feels no pain
CONDITION Tyler Resuggan A BOY who believes he is a real-life superhero – because he cannot feel pain – has broken eight bones and been to A&E 27 times.
Tyler Resuggan, eight, was diagnosed as a baby with a genetic mutation that blocks pain sensors.
Mum Claire, 33, helps him understand by comparing him to a superhero – as they also appear indestructible. Tyler, of Northfield, Birmingham has fractured his skull, ankles and feet, suffered second-degree burns, and almost bitten through his tongue.
Claire said: “Although some people think it sounds great not feeling pain, it’s actually dreadful and life-threatening.
“He just bounces back from his DEADLY Lumberjack armed with chainsaw injuries and doesn’t even flinch. He has been to A&E 27 times now, and I can count at least 13 scars on his head and face.”
After the family’s first trip to casualty, they were investigated for child abuse until Tyler’s congenital insensitivity to pain was discovered. Nurse Claire, who has two other children, is speaking out to publicise the condition. She added: “There’s no cure, Tyler won’t feel pain for the rest of his life. Recently, he went to a trampoline party and three weeks later we discovered he had eight fractures in his foot and he had to be put in a cast.”
“I don’t have a clue because Tyler doesn’t know himself.”
