Tunisia terror attack mum: Hotel revamp is so hurtful

£1.9m security fix ‘2 years too late’

A MUM who lost three relatives in the Tunisia terror attack has criticised the targeted hotel after it reopened with a new name.

Suzanne Evans, who lost son Joel Richards, 19, dad Patrick Evans, 78, and brother Adrian Evans, 44, called the decision to relaunch the Imperial Marhaba as Kantaoui Bay “hurtful”.

The hotel in Sousse has had a £1.9million revamp and security overhaul following the atrocity that claimed 38 lives. Suzanne’s three relatives were among 30 British tourists murdered by IS gunman Seifeddine Rezgui in 2015.

She said: “It’s hurtful they’ve decided to spend £1.9million refurbishing the hotel and putting in adequate security, which should have been there in the first place. They are telling everyone that they have invested in security by providing CCTV cameras and a control room. They’re investing now but they didn’t invest before. Why hadn’t they done this before 2015?”

Suzanne, of Wednesbury, West Mids, added: “I knew they’d reopen it eventually but I’m upset the manager has never once apologised to the families.”

Inquests into the deaths took place in February with the coroner ruling all the victims were unlawfully killed.

This month 33 people will stand trial in Tunisia over failings in the security services’ response to the attack.

Some police delayed their arrival at the scene. One senior officer fainted while another fled in a boat.

The Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel to most of Tunisia.
