England sweating on Jordan
CLAUDE PUEL is backing Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini to get back on the goal trail against Arsenal tonight – and end mentor Arsene Wenger’s faint hopes of gate-crashing the top four.
Gabbiadini was in scorching form following his £17million move from Napoli in January, scoring six times in five games.
But the Italy star (left) has failed to find the net in four appearances since returning from a groin injury.
Saints boss Puel said: “Sometimes it’s difficult when you come back from an injury, to find the good rhythm and good intensity. But I think this game against Arsenal will be open and perhaps we will see more opportunities.”
Puel is pals with Wenger after playing and coaching under his fellow Frenchman at Monaco in the 1990s, adding: “He is a great manager for Arsenal for the future.” JURGEN KLOPP has told England their hopes of having Jordan Henderson available for the summer World Cup showdown with Scotland are hanging by a thread.
The Liverpool manager has refused to rule his skipper out of the two international games the Three Lions face in June – against the Scots and a friendly with France – but has made it clear Henderson must play for his club first.
Klopp revealed the midfield star has struggled to respond to treatment on a foot injury that has kept him out for three months, but Liverpool have yet to write off his season, even though there is only a fortnight left.
Klopp said: “We have not made a final judgement for this season. We don’t know if he will be back tomorrow in training or next week.
“Because it is Jordan, and he has a really high fitness level, we know we can think about him immediately when he is ready. Then we could think about the national team.
“If he has games (with Liverpool), he could play (for England) – if not, it makes no sense.”
