SWAN UP ON SILVA

- BY ALEX BYWATER

PAUL CLEMENT wants Swansea to pile the pressure on relegation rivals Hull.

With two games of the season to go, Clement is urging his side to take advantage of playing a day before Marco Silva’s team.

Swansea play at Sunderland tomorrow, 24 hours ahead of Hull’s date with Crystal Palace, and Clement (below) said: “If we win, Hull have to win their last two games.

“We have to make it work for us that we are playing ahead of them.

“If we get the result it will be tough for Hull, but first we have to get the result.”

If Swans do survive the drop, Clement – the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich assistant – believes it would be cause to celebrate after a turbulent season.

Clement said: “We’ve had three managers in one season, we were bottom at the halfway point with only 12 points, and we have conceded a huge number of goals.

“I think in that context we can absolutely celebrate if we stay in the league.” Clement is aware that nerves will play as important a role as know-how before the season is over.

“The pressure is there but we have to deal with it,” he said. “I wouldn’t say we ever enjoyed it but we have used it as motivation.

“Our mentality is to go and win the game at Sunderland – that’s what we’re trying to do.”
