DO CRY FOR ME, ARGENTINA

TEARIO: POCHETTINO'S EMOTIONAL FAREWELL TO THE LANE

- BY DARREN LEWIS

MAURICIO POCHETTINO admits he will be fighting back tears when Spurs bring down the curtain on 118 years at White Hart Lane.

An array of stars will take part in a closing ceremony after the game with Manchester United.

“I’m a very sensitive person and am so emotional that it will be difficult not to cry, maybe,” Tottenham’s Argentinian

manager said. “Because you always you suffer for the people, that will be so emotional Sunday.”

Bulldozers move in next week to knock down the old stadium and Spurs will play their home games at Wembley next season while their new ground (above) is being completed.

Pochettino added: “For the fans it means a lot but in the same way – I don’t want to be wrong – I think our fans are excited to welcome the new stadium too.

“That doesn’t mean they are happy it’s the end of White Hart Lane. They are excited about moving towards progress.

“Sure it will be very, very emotional but at the same time it will be exciting to welcome the new stadium.”

The ground is being built on an expanded site taking in the current stadium, which will have to be demolished for the redevelopment.

It will have a capacity of 61,559 – almost 70 per cent more than at present – will cost about £800million and is scheduled to be ready for the 2018-19 campaign.
