HOME IS WHERE BRAVEHEART IS
BEWARE England, underdogs do bite back.
Gareth Southgate’s strong and stable England have looked pretty untouchable in World Cup qualifying so far, but as the General Election showed, you must take nothing for granted.
The polls say that England only need to turn up at Hampden to win this one comfortably, but we are predicting a tougher evening for them when they cross Hadrian’s Wall tonight.
True, Gordon Strachan’s men have had a lacklustre qualifying campaign so far, but they should never be underestimated at home.
When the Scots step on to Glasgow soil, they are a totally different animal.
The Scots have lost only once in nine games at home – and that was to mighty Germany.
For a team that seems short on goals, the stat that Scotland have scored in each of their last 12 home games is a surprising and killer one to us.
The reverse fixture at Wembley last November may have been a comfortable 3-0 win for England, but the scoreline did not tell the whole story that night as Scotland, wearing pink shirts of all things, squandered several chances to score first before surrendering to three headers.
Things may well be different in front of a baying Hampden crowd tonight.
England obviously have genuine goal threats in the shape of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Marcus Rashford, so both teams to score looks a votewinner to us. England’s big names, usually battered and bruised by the rigours of a punishing Premier League season, often run out of gas in summer tournaments and we fear they may not have enough left in the tank to win a majority tonight.
