Fears over a Scots veto on EU quit laws
Queen in blue outfit and ‘EU hat’ with son Charles THE Scottish Parliament could be handed a veto over key Brexit laws, Theresa May admitted yesterday.
Britain faces a possible constitutional crisis over the Scots having the power to block the Great Repeal Bill. It gives Mrs May a fresh headache as she heads to Brussels today for her first EU summit since Brexit talks began.
Mrs May will address the other 27 EU leaders over dinner tonight with her proposals for the rights of EU nationals living in Britain.
Speaking in the Commons yesterday, she set out plans for eight separate Bills related to leaving the EU.
But she admitted there is a “possibility” that Scottish MSPs will hold their own vote on the Great Repeal Bill, through a littleknown procedure called a “legislative consent motion”.
Last night a spokesman for the Prime Minister pleaded with MSPs not to vote against the Bill.
He said: “We hope that everyone would get behind delivering on the will of the British people.”
