South Africa beat England by 3 runs STUART BROAD is battling to be fit in time for the First Test.
The Nottinghamshire fast bowler has a bruised left heel and with a Royal London Cup final and England duty against South Africa in the next couple of weeks, the problem could not have flared up at a worse time.
The only way for Broad to have a chance of playing is to rest the foot, which means he has been ruled out of a County Championship clash with Kent next week.
“Stuart has been around the block enough to know that’s the way it is,” said Notts coach Peter Moores. “He has some pain and has a lot of cricket coming up so it needs sorting out.
“It’s already started to settle and we’ll have to see how it goes over the next four or five days.
“He’s desperate to play in the final, and we’re all hoping it’s going to be OK.”
