MAC: DRAGONS MUST FIRE

- BY GARETH WALKER

Warrington v Catalans, 3pm

STEVE McNAMARA returns to Super League today determined to quickly reverse Catalans’ flagging fortunes.

The Dragons, with just two wins in their last seven league outings, find themselves involved in a scramble to avoid the Qualifiers and a relegation scrap, and travel to fellow strugglers Warrington this afternoon.

McNamara agreed a three-and-ahalf year deal in Perpignan after leaving his role as assistant coach at New Zealand Warriors.

The former England boss (right) said: “When a team changes coach, generally it’s not because it’s in a great position and there are things at the club that need to improve quite clearly.

“But the group of players has a lot of potential to improve and we will work to get that as quickly as possible.

“This is one hell of a big club in worldwide rugby league and we need to make sure we can get it to fulfil its potential.

“I wouldn’t say it’s an emergency but it’s more an urgency. The players need to relax and clear their minds of some of the external pressures that are put on them. “I want them to think clearly and if they do that, they have a chance of performing very well, starting this weekend.” Warrington will be without full-back Stefan Ratchford, who misses the game because of a ban for tripping, but captain Chris Hill returns from a one-match suspension.
