DRAMA

BBC1, 9pm

The misery continues with another episode of Jimmy McGovern’s powerful drama, with Sean Bean captivating as Father Michael. He does make an excellent priest – you’d almost forget he was once Ned Stark.

From the moment you hear the opening credits, Nina Simone’s I Think It’s Going To Rain Today, you know it’s time to prepare for a weekly dose of darkness.

It opens with the funeral of Roz, who committed suicide last week despite Father Michael’s pleas to reconsider her plan. Her daughter Chloe (Lauren Lyle) now wants answers. And she vows to pay back every penny that Roz stole from her boss and gambled away.

Meanwhile, Helen’s brother Daniel (Danny Sapani) arrives from Trinidad to comfort his sister. But he immediately has a run-in with Helen’s neighbour Carl (Ned Dennehy).

Father Michael attempts to mediate, but when things escalate further he finds himself torn between doing what’s right in the eyes of the law, and what he feels may resolve things between the two men without causing more upset to grieving Helen (Muna Otaru).
