Sofia needs a kidney
SOFIA Field, nine, was born with an abnormality and has suffered kidney problems all her life. She is now one of the 90 children desperately in need of a kidney transplant.
Mum Abi, 30, said: “She spent the first six months of her life in hospital and started dialysis just before her first birthday.
“She was on the list when she was younger and received a living donor transplant when she was three. But it failed within a week and we nearly lost her then.”
For four days a week, Sofia, from Truro, Cornwall, travels the gruelling 400-mile round trip to Bristol Children’s Hospital, where she spends four hours hooked to a dialysis machine.
Abi says: “A successful transplant would change her life. She spends the majority of her life nearly four hours away.”
