GEMILI FEARS WORLD’S END

-

ADAM GEMILI is in danger of missing next month’s World Championships in London.

Gemili (above) limped home a distant sixth in the 200m at the trials in Birmingham and is now desperately hoping that a leg injury clears up.

He also needs the British selectors to back him.

“I kept it under the radar. I didn’t really advertise I was injured,” said Gemili, who pulled out of the 100m on Saturday to rest his right leg in an all-or-nothing bid for the 200.

“I hope people know what I can do when I’m in shape. At the champs I always perform well so I’ve got that in my favour,” is Gemili’s plea to the selectors.

Most of the team will be picked on July 11 and late additions will be named 13 days later, giving him some leeway. “The 100m was an option, but I think that’s off the cards now,” admitted Gemili.

“I’ve got to get a medical check-up, make a decision and pray for selection. It’s just whether they have faith in me to go out and do a job against the best in the world.”

Gemili, a European champion three years ago with the rare ability to go sub 10 seconds over 100m and under 20 seconds for 200m, is one of Britain’s big hopes for a World medal.

But he was never in contention as Nethaneel MitchellBlake (20.18sec) (circle) edged Danny Talbot (20.20sec) for the automatic world champs places.

Zharnel Hughes, who was fourth, is Gemili’s rival when the selectors pick the third athlete.

Shannon Hylton (22.94sec) was a shock winner of the women’s 200m with favourite Desiree Henry (23.14 sec) in third place.
