Love Island booze curb to stop ‘tawdry’ drunken sex
LOVE Island bosses have been limiting booze for contestants to try to stop them jumping into bed with each other.
But that did not prevent four couples having sex on the ITV dating reality show on Sunday night.
Camilla Thurlow, 27, a former Miss Edinburgh, and model Jamie Jewitt, also 27, were seen being very intimate at the weekend in the villa.
But producers have been anxious that the show is not seen as “tawdry” with drunken romps.
One insider said: “They want it to be about the romance, not the sexual relationships.” A previous contestant has admitted they felt having sex guaranteed them more air-time and lucrative deals after filming. But a source said: “There has been a huge effort by the production team to ensure current Islanders feel differently.”
Miss GB Zara Holland sobbed last year after having sex during the show, blaming it on too much booze.
This year alcohol has been restricted to just two drinks a night and nobody has been shown to be drunk. There were also “consent chats” with contestants to ensure they do not have sex with someone who is drunk.
The show has been edited to focus more on the romantic elements with most flings not making the final edit. Host Caroline Flack has said: “We have always only shown the sexy bits if they have been relevant.
“It has been more heartfelt this year so we have needed to follow their emotional journey.”
