COCKROFT ON A SCARY PATH

FORMULA ONE

-

HANNAH COCKROFT fears for her future – despite being a 10-time world champion.

Cockroft, 24, is yet to discover what event she will race in during the 2018 European Championships and will not be going to the Commonwealth Games.

She won three titles at the World Para Athletics Championships in London – the T34 100m, 400m and 800m – to add to her five Paralympic gold medals.

Cockroft will have a race at the Europeans in Berlin but the International Paralympic Committee are yet to finalise the schedule and she has a lack of depth in her classification.

And, ahead of the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo, Cockroft said: “It’s worrying and scary. I don’t know if I’ve got an event in the Europeans and then we don’t know where the next World Championships will be. There’s a big question mark leading up to Tokyo.

“I want to go to Tokyo but next year is going to be quiet. I’ve not got an event in the Commonwealths or a secure event in the Europeans. So what do we aim for?

“Sponsors are going to walk away pretty quickly.” RENAULT have hired crocked driver Robert Kubica to test their F1 car – and he could replace Jolyon Palmer in their team after the Brit failed to score in 10 races this term.

Kubica’s career looked over when he partially severed his forearm in a 2011 rally smash.

The Pole (left) drove in the firm’s 2012 car in June and will test again next week. Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul said: “We will determine how it would be possible for Robert to return to competition.”
