Dying for a real choice
MUSIC writer Andrew Tyler’s glittering career enabled him to leave this world with dignity when Parkinson’s started to invade his life, but others lack the money or support to fly to Switzerland.
So now is probably the moment to consider whether a Dignitas clinic in Britain is required for those wishing to check out on their own terms, expanding choice to the seriously ill lacking a large budget.
The issue of how and when we die is inevitably painful and controversial, and the vulnerable need protecting against predators who would snuff out a life for an inheritance.
Yet condemning those in pain and the terminally ill to continue life is not civilised.
Andrew Tyler left on his own terms and others are entitled to do the same.
How we die should be our choice.
