(1) Dorrans 4, pen 58 GRAHAM DORRANS described scoring twice on his Rangers debut as a “dream come true”.

Dorrans gave Rangers a winning start to the new Premiership season as they overcame Motherwell 2-1 at Fir Park.

The boyhood Gers fan (below) marked his first competitive start with a goal inside four minutes, before his new side were pegged back just before the break when Ben Heneghan headed home.

But Dorrans capped off his impressive debut when he slotted home a secondhalf penalty to ease the pressure on Rangers’ Portuguese boss Pedro Caixinha, who is under early scrutiny after a shock Europa League departure.

“Overall I am delighted. It was great for me personally,” said the former Norwich midfielder.

“It is something I have always dreamed of as a kid so to come here and get a goal in my first game is great.

“We spoke before the game and we stressed how important it was to get off to a good start and I thought we did that.”

Aberdeen, who pipped Rangers to the runners-up spot behind Celtic last season, registered a 2-0 victory.

Derek McInnes’ side took a 26th-minute lead over Hamilton through Anthony O’Connor at Pittodrie, but had to wait for a sending off to make matters safe.

French defender Xavier Tomas was booked twice in the space of eight secondhalf minutes – his second yellow a cynical block on Ryan Christie – to leave the visitors at a numerical disadvantage and substitute Miles Storey eventually made them pay in the closing moments.
