SORE LIONS TOOK IT AS SIMPLY RED

- BY RICHARD LATHAM

SHAUN HUTCHINSON moaned luckless Millwall should have spent the second half playing against 10 men.

Just before the interval City’s £5.3million record-signing Famara Diedhiou (above) appeared to raise an arm towards Jed Wallace during a stoppage in play.

Referee Darren England spotted the offence, but to the dismay of Millwall boss Neil Harris and his players, decided a caution was sufficient punishment.

Hutchinson said: “I don’t understand how it could have been a yellow card. If a player makes contact with an opponent’s face it has to be red.

“It was either nothing or a sending-off. Jed has gone down so he clearly felt contact.”

But City head coach Lee Johnson said: “The Millwall player had invaded Famara’s personal space and it was more of a push than anything. The ref saw there was some play-acting going on.”

Millwall’s first four games back in the Championship have ended in two draws and two defeats.

But Hutchinson said: “We have been the better team in all our games and could easily be sitting on top of the table with 12 points.

“At the start of the season my aim was to help establish us in mid-table. If we carry on as we have started that is realistic.”

City’s Frank Fielding was the busier keeper, and denied Millwall sub Fred Onyedinma a late winner.

Johnson added: “It was a very game tough for us.

“Millwall play very direct and are very good at it. The positive was how we defended, the players put their bodies on the line.”
