POLICE shot dead the driver in the Barcelona atrocity.
Younes Abouyaaqoub, 22, was wearing a fake bomb vest.
The van driver’s aunt, Fatima Abouyaaqoub, had said: “I hold no sympathies for Younes, even if they catch him and kill him. I worry for my brother, his father, and his mother.”
She added: “Those boys can’t even read Arabic. Whatever changed them happened in Europe, not here.”
Last week, five jihadis responsible for the Barcelona atrocity were shot dead after a second vehicle attack in the seaside resort of Cambrils, 70 miles to the southwest. A woman was killed and five other people injured.
The terror cell included four sets of brothers. They are reported to include Abouyaaqoub’s brother, Houssaine, 17.
Others believed to be killed in Cambrils were brothers Mohamed and Omar Hychami, Said Allaa, and Moussa Oukabir, aged 17. The others arrested are understood to be Mohammed Alla, Driss Oukabir and Salh el Karib, who are expected to appear at the high court in Madrid.
■ A WOMAN aged 42 was killed and a man was injured after a stolen van was deliberately driven into two bus shelters in Marseille, France, yesterday.
A local man, 35, who is said to have “psychological issues” was arrested. The suspect has convictions for theft, drugs trafficking and carrying illegal weapons.
Police ruled out terrorism.
