MY BROTHER ROCKY WOULD HAVE SNUBBED THIS CIRCUS

- FROM ANDY DUNN Chief Sports Writer in Las Vegas EXCLUSIVE BY DAVID ANDERSON

FLOYD MAYWEATHER has been told he will not eclipse Rocky Marciano if he beats Conor McGregor.

A win for the American would move him clear of the 49-0 record he jointly holds with Marciano.

But Peter Marciano, brother of the former world heavyweight king who ruled the division in the mid-1950s, insists Mayweather would not be out on his own because the fight with UFC star McGregor is “rubbish”.

He said: “I’m sure in his mind, Mayweather thinks he’s breaking my brother’s record by beating McGregor, but in my heart and mind, his record will still be intact.

“Rocky would have been the first to congratulate someone on breaking his record, but he wouldn’t have gone to this fight and neither will I.

“I was invited, but I’ve no desire whatsoever to watch this fight.”

Peter claims his brother, who died in a plane crash in 1969 aged 45, would never have been part of such an event.

“This fight is rubbish,” said the 76-year-old, who still lives in Rocky’s native Brockton in Massachusetts. “My brother would have never got in the ring with someone who never had a fight before. It would have been beneath him.

“There are people out there who think McGregor can win, but he won’t even come close to landing a punch. Every time Rocky got in the ring people got their money’s worth.”
