Over-50s jail dress revolt
A QUARTER of graduates regret going to university, a survey found.
Many were unhappy at the cost or at wasting time socialising.
Nearly half thought they would be at the same career level if they started as a trainee or apprentice.
The study for training firm Qube Learning found that while nine in 10 graduates enjoyed their university time, nearly half were in a job that was unrelated to their degree.
Just a fifth had been made aware apprenticeships were an option. Qube’s Joe Crossley said: “It’s surprising how few are advised on alternatives to university.”
Top of a list of most pointless degrees was acting, followed by outdoor adventure and office skills. OLDER women prisoners have protested against having to wear clothes that are too young for them.
Over-50s said clothes from a catalogue they had to use and handme-downs from younger prisoners who had left were not appropriate.
Now HMP Styal, near Wilmslow, Cheshire, is to stock a wider range and use an over-50s catalogue, an Independent Monitoring Board report said. Some 12% of Styal’s 500 inmates are over 50, with a handful in their 60s and 70s.
A source said: “The problem seems that most catalogues are aimed at the younger generation.”
In their first month inside women receive clothing parcels but after that must order from catalogues.
