Gray goal just Howe to be tops
Eng U-21 3 Latvia U-21 0 Euro 2019 qualifier: Group Four BY DANIEL SHELDON BOURNEMOUTH boss Eddie Howe has chased Demarai Gray for years.
Howe was at home in the Cherries’ Vitality Stadium to see the Leicester winger blast Latvia with a brilliant 13th-minute strike.
And no doubt wonder what the season might hold in store for Bournemouth if only he had pulled off a £30million bid for Gray on transfer deadline day.
Aidy Boothroyd’s England Under-21s seized control when Gray came in off the left wing to hit a scorcher inside the far post.
The 21-year-old was left out by Boothroyd against Holland last week after being unsettled – but he soon made up for lost time.
The young Lions increased their lead in the 35th minute when Tammy Abraham’s shot from outside the area was fumbled into the net by Latvian goalkeeper Vladislavs Kurakins.
Kasey Palmer added England’s third to complete the rout after a Tom Davies cross was only parried by Kurakins – falling at the feet of the Huddersfield loan star, who prodded in from close range.
