FONUA TIPS MEGA WATTS TO LIGHT UP HULL

-

Hull FC v Wakefield Trinity 8pm EXCLUSIVE BY GARETH WALKER MAHE FONUA has warned Wakefield to expect a refreshed and focused Liam Watts – as the Aussie bids to write his own fairytale finale at Hull FC.

Fonua (right), who scored twice in last month’s Challenge Cup Final win over Wigan, heads back Down Under to Wests Tigers at the end of the season. He is desperate to end his Black and Whites career with a Grand Final trip to Old Trafford – and tonight’s Wakefield clash is crucial to top-four hopes.

Prop Watts (left) will line up despite his red card seven days ago, with his sending off deemed sufficient following a highimpact collision with Wigan’s Michael McIlorum. And winger Fonua says the big front rower is relishing his return. He said: “Liam only played for 20 minutes so he will be a bit fresher than other players, and I know he’ll want to get out there and redeem himself. “Obviously, he wasn’t happy with himself for being sent off, but we know he didn’t go out there to deliberately put us under pressure with 12 men.

“What happened was unfortunate and I wouldn’t wish that on any player – I’m sure all the boys as well as me wish McIlorum a speedy recovery.

“But on Liam’s side there was no malice behind his running – what happened was that they braced at the same time of contact and it was unfortunate.”
