Wenger: Ozil deal is still on
ARSENE WENGER has denied talks with Mesut Ozil have broken down and remains hopeful he will sign a new deal.
The Gunners boss admits negotiations have “slowed down” but insists dialogue is still open.
Ozil is into the final year of his contract and Arsenal have offered him in excess of £275,000-a-week.
But the Germany star’s representatives are demanding £350,000.
It seems increasingly likely the 28-year-old will leave on a free, with media reports in Germany claiming discussions stalled in February.
Asked if he was hopeful Ozil would remain at Arsenal, Wenger replied: “Yes, of course.
“The contract talks have slowed down a little bit since August 31 because we need a little breather and to focus on the competition but we will slowly get back into that.”
Alexis Sanchez has also snubbed a new deal at the Emirates and is demanding £400,000-a-week, with Manchester City desperate to sign him after missing out in the summer despite tabling a £60million bid.
