ENGLAND cricket star Ben Stokes was arrested after a late-night bust up which left a man in hospital.

Stokes, 26, was held by police but released under investigation and without charge in the early hours of Monday morning.

The all-rounder was arrested on suspicion of ABH after an alleged assault outside the Mbargo nightclub in Clifton, Bristol. He had been celebrating England’s one-day victory against West Indies, played in the city, the previous day.

Stokes was with team-mate Ben Hales, who returned voluntarily yesterday to help officers with their inquiries.

Avon and Somerset Police said they were called to “a disorder” at around 2.35am.

INJURIES

A 27-year-old man was found with facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Neither Stokes nor Hales will take part in today’s match with West Indies at the Oval in London. A statement from the ECB said they would “not be available” for the one-day game.

But director of cricket Andrew Strauss said squad selectors for England’s upcoming Ashes tour of Australia, to be announced today, had been instructed to pick players on “form and fitness as they normally would”.

In 2011, Stokes was arrested for obstructing a police officer after an incident in his hometown of Cockermouth, Cumbria.

In June, 2016, he was banned from driving for his fourth speeding offence and warned he would be jailed if caught again.
