AGUERO IN A TOUGH SPOT

MANCHESTER CITY ...... 2 SHAKHTAR DONETSK ...... 0

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

SERGIO AGUERO missed the chance to make history as Manchester City racked up their seventh successive victory. Aguero could have drawn level with Eric Brook as City’s all-time leading scorer on 177 goals, but his penalty was saved. Kevin De

Bruyne made sure Aguero’s miss did not cost City and he opened the scoring with a fine strike.

De Bruyne won the ball before curling home a 25-yard effort to register his first goal since May 16.

Raheem Sterling, who might have had a penalty, made sure of victory in the last minute when he scored off the underside of the bar.

De Bruyne said: “I definitely think it is not my best game, it is the way it goes. It was hard graft today, but this team can play. We were better in the second half, created more chances and, in the end, it was a deserved victory.

“It is better if we score earlier. We will score five, six goals or we can win 1-0, 2-0 too. It was another clean sheet.

“Sergio Aguero is our No.1 penalty taker.

“Even if he misses, we still have confidence in him and he will get a few more penalties in his career.”

City are now well-positioned to reach the last 16.
