WAGHORN’S SWEET REVENGE ON CATS
IPSWICH SUNDERLAND 5 2 MARTYN WAGHORN racked up the pressure on Black Cats boss Simon Grayson with a goal and three assists to leave his former club humiliated.
Waghorn, 27, was shown the Stadium of Light door in 2010 after a handful of appearances – but he proved too much for the Cats’ current defence.
He glanced home a header to open the scoring in the sixth minute. He also provided the corner for Jordan Spence to head home a second, just before the half-hour mark, after Billy Jones had levelled in the 10th minute. Waghorn’s clever flick allowed Bersant Celina to make it 3-1, 10 minutes into the second half.
And David McGoldrick bundled the ball in on the hour mark after Waghorn had sent an inviting ball across the box.
Sunderland pulled one back through Aidan McGeady’s 65th-minute cracker.
But sub Grant Ward hit a fifth, a minute before the end.
