Tenants’ rights will be prioritised if Mr Corbyn gains power, as he vowed to bring in major changes to tackle “social cleansing”.
He said the wreck of Grenfell Tower was a symbol of “brutal” Tory housing and economic policies, and vowed to force councils to win tenants’ approval before regeneration work. The Labour chief also suggested rent controls to deal with housing costs.
He said: “After Grenfell, we must think again about what are called regeneration schemes. Too often, it means forced gentrification and social cleansing.”
