GOING IS GOOD FOR VARDY
‘Racehorse’ Jamie is raring to get at Albion
JAMIE VARDY has had to be reined in – because he’s been training like a racehorse.
The Leicester hotshot missed England’s last two World Cup qualifiers to have injections in his hip.
But the Foxes thoroughbred has been able to train fully since the treatment and is ready to bolt from the stalls in tonight’s visit to the King Power of West Brom.
City boss Craig Shakespeare said: “He’s fine. He’s fully fit to train regularly and daily. He’s shown no ill effects.
“In fact, he has looked really sharp and, if he was a horse, you would just want to rein him back a bit.
“Jamie being Jamie, I want to release him – I want him to feel good about himself and I think that’s important.”
Vardy, 30, who has hit five of Leicester’s nine Premier League goals this season, will also be available for England’s friendlies, against world champions Germany and then Brazil, next month.
Shakespeare said: “We all agree it was best for Jamie to sit the last one out, and he’ll be fine now, going forward.”
Leicester are seeking their first Premier League win in 58 days – the same time between victories that cost titlewinning chief Claudio Ranieri his job last February.
The Foxes will be looking to climb out of the bottom three with their first home win against their Midlands rivals for 23 years.
Shakespeare added: “You must have a positive mentality. We are at home.
“If we’d won the last seven, you’d go into this game wanting to win, and it would be the same if we’d lost.”
