SILVA CURES HIS TRAVEL SICKNESS

- BY IAN BAKER

WATFORD boss Marco Silva can’t explain why he has suddenly become a happy traveller this season.

The Portuguese gaffer did not win a single match on the road with Hull last term. But his Hornets side are unbeaten away from home so far this season, with three victories and one draw signalling a major turnaround for Silva.

They now have the most daunting fixture of all as they travel to champions Chelsea today but are unfazed by the challenge.

Silva said: “We have worked really hard to achieve this form away from home but now it is a new game.

“Did I question myself at Hull with the away record? No. We prepared for all games in the same way. We didn’t change anything.

“For us the three points are really important, whether it is at home or away. For our fans the last three away games have been enjoyable and they will have felt the other team was playing away.

“Last season did not teach me about playing away as I learn every day.”

Silva (above) knows it will not be easy to prevent Antonio Conte’s reigning Premier League champions winning for the first time in four matches even though Watford’s against-the-odds 2-1 win over Arsenal last weekend took them up to fourth. Silva said: “We analyse the whole season, not just the last three games. It is a mistake if you only look at those games. “For teams like Chelsea and the big teams it is a bit different. They have players with lots of quality and confidence and so can change the game in one moment. “But I am not more motivated to play against Chelsea than anyone else. My motivation would be the same against anyone.”
