Bowie’s draft of Starman... yours for £4k

- BY JACK WILLIAMS

AN EARLY draft of David Bowie’s hit Starman is being sold for up to £4,500.

Some of the lyrics are different to the final version, released in 1972, which became a milestone in Bowie’s career.

The 11in sheet of paper is unsigned, but is sold with a letter of authenticity, saying it is Bowie’s work.

Written in black ink, the Starman title is underlined and in capitals.

Auctioneer Darren Julien said: “This being a version of his working lyrics makes this item one of Bowie’s most important working manuscripts.”

Starman was the first single from Bowie’s album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust. It reached No10 in the UK singles charts.

The sale will be in Los Angeles on November 4.
