If you’re failing to get an interview, it could be your lack of an online portfolio. Recent research revealed that nine out of 10 recruiters are more likely to bring a candidate in for interview – and hire them – if they demonstrate their skills and experience via an online profile.

We’ve teamed up with UKdomain.uk for tips on creating an effective portfolio website: 1. Make sure your website is visual, with examples of your work. Showcase projects you’ve been involved in. Stand out with videos and multimedia to show off your digital skills and creativity. 2. A blog is a great way to build on the experience outlined in your CV. Regular blogging shows you’re committed and highlights your writing and communication skills. 3. Use designs and create content that matches your personality. You have scope to reveal aspects of your personality that potential employers will be looking for – for example, a sense of humour and enthusiasm. 4. Don’t diminish your experience by thinking employers won’t believe it’s significant or of interest. Include those glowing recommendations from tutors or previous employers – but don’t forget to ask their permission first. 5. Simplicity is key. Try to avoid too much text where an image can explain something. Keep your navigation simple so that people can get around your website easily – keep it short and logical. 6. You’ve done all the hard work now, but don’t forget any crucial information. Make sure you include a concise and memorable “about me” section, your education, qualifications and employment history.
