‘Turn on LED, save £200m’
A SWITCH to LED street lights could save councils more than £200million a year, campaigners say.
They are cheaper to run and power stations would pump out 600,000 fewer tonnes of carbon emissions a year to light them, said climate charity 10:10.
Around 20% of roads are believed to be lit by LEDs.
The group’s Neil Jones said: “It is a no-brainer. We are calling on councils to switch to greener, cheaper street-lighting by 2020.”
