Frozen by fear isn’t snowflaky

-

And so, as night follows day, and as Emmerdale follows the local news, here comes the woman-blaming which always follows a spate of sexual assault claims.

It happened after the arrests of Jimmy Savile and “jiggling” Dave Lee Travis.

Women are being snowflaky, too quick to take offence, or should just kick these sleazeballs in the balls, come the familiar refrains.

As ever the blame offensive is led by women (I imagine they do it to applaud themselves on how marvellous their own achievements were, against all odds).

Conservative Woman co-editor Kathy Gyngell labels the recent accusations about sex pests in parliament as “hysteria” and “encouraging women to see themselves as victims”.

Journalist Anne Robinson says she is “in despair” at the “fragility” of modern women. Apparently in her day “we gave them a slap, and told them to grow up”.

And once again…what narrowminded, self-serving rubbish this is. Anne may have given the scumbags a slap. But I imagine she failed to notice the dozens of her colleagues who were too scared – physically, or for their career, or for their reputation – so did nothing. They did what too many women have had to do throughout history – bowed down in the face of power. (Just as Clive Lewis would have wished).

Presumably Anne also failed to notice the tiny number of female colleagues she had generally. And why only the toughest – not the most talented – survived.

Going to work in Parliament, in film studios or in factories should never be a physical or emotional battle with the office Benny Hill. Or far worse.

That’s not snowflaky – it’s just common sense. ATTACK Anne Robinson
