Ross: X Factor longer than winners’ careers

JONATHAN Ross believes The X Factor goes on too long, with some episodes “lasting longer than winners’ careers”.

Last Saturday’s show ran for two hours, and this weekend’s episodes are not much shorter.

Risking the wrath of his bosses at ITV, which hosts the contest, Jonathan said: “I love it but, man, it is too long, ain’t it? Two hours?”

The chat-show host joked: “It is so long now that by the end of last weekend’s show, one of the boys moved up into the overs category.

“Some episodes last longer than previous winners’ careers. I genuinely worry that Louis Walsh may not live to see the end of the show. It is so long, even Simon Cowell threw himself down the stairs.”

Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show this Saturday, guest David Walliams claims Simon, who missed last week’s episodes due to a fall, is desperate for a knighthood.

The BGT co-judge says: “He is so competitive. He thinks he should get a knighthood. Maybe one day he will.

“It would be annoying if he was Sir Simon. If you are a Sir then you have to call them that, so it is like heralding the ir arrival. He would not be shy about it. I hope and pray that he never gets one.” David also tells how Simon had been riding around London with a new toy prior to his accident at his home. He says: “His partner said, ‘Oh, he’s cycling to work now’. “Then I found out it is an electric bike and you don’t have to pedal.” He also jokes of the mogul’s addiction to judging: “He once asked my mum to bake him a Victoria sponge cake. “He tasted it and went, ‘Oh, bit dry’. He could not help judging it.”
