CHUCKING OUT TIME
Skipper Brough among THREE Scots sent home in disgrace after getting too drunk to board flight
SCOTLAND’S World Cup campaign descended into chaos with skipper Danny Brough one of three players sent home in disgrace.
Brough, Johnny Walker ( far right) and Sam Brooks (right) were left behind in Christchurch after being too drunk to board a flight to Cairns.
The news came in the wake of the Bravehearts’ 74-6 defeat by New Zealand, meaning they have conceded 124 points in two games.
Scotland Rugby League chairman Keith Hogg said: “They clearly had been drinking in an inappropriate fashion – the consequences of that became very obvious at the airport. The airline were quite within their rights to say what they said – they were supported by all of us.
“We expect everyone involved in Scotland Rugby League to adhere to the highest standards of behaviour. Unfortunately, these three players have not adhered to those standards and those values and will be leaving early from a tournament that it is a privilege for us to be involved in.”
Scotland can still qualify for the quarter-finals by winning their final group game against Samoa – but that looks more unlikely than ever with the loss of three key players.
Coach Steve McCormack was already missing a host of senior stars through injury, leading the Scots to struggle badly compared with past competitions.
They made the quarterfinals in 2013, qualified for last year’s Four Nations and then drew with New Zealand.
But this campaign could end in tatters following the misconduct charge against the three players.
France hooker Eloi Pelissier, who spent last season at Leigh, has also been sent home for breaking a curfew.
