Is Miller at the tiller again?
Is this another disaster courtesy of kitchen conman Vance Miller, once the most complained about independent retailer in the country?
He’s being linked to a collapsed business in Huddersfield which imported quirky wooden furniture.
Police were called to Unique Solid Wood Furniture By Stan after it shut its doors, fearing a disturbance as angry customers gathered to demand their goods or refunds.
Its Facebook page blames the collapse on another business that ordered furniture but never paid for it. This is Solid Wood Furniture UK Ltd, run from Nottingham by father and son team Keith and Adam Maddock.
Far from failing to pay for goods, Keith Maddock told me this week that he’s owed “hundreds of thousands” for furniture ordered for his customers which has not been delivered by Furniture by Stan. He claims that Vance Miller is behind the Huddersfield outfit. “It’s Vance Miller,” he said. “I know him and recognised his voice on the phone. “He used the name Stan Harper. I told him he was Vance Miller. I said, ‘I know who you are’, and he didn’t deny it.” Unique Solid Wood Furniture By Stan has stopped answering its phones and it is not a limited company, so there are no public records of its owners. Last year, six of Miller’s underlings were jailed for fraud following a trial at Manchester crown court, where his kitchens were described as “effectively rubbish”. Miller (left), 52, disappeared abroad and there’s an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
