JOKANOVIC IN PLEA FOR NEW BLOOD
IT took just one swing of Mamadou Sakho’s right boot to give Palace reason to be optimistic again.
SLAVISA JOKANOVIC delivered a veiled message to owner Shahid Khan after Fulham collected their second win in five days.
Asked how his injury-hit team had managed to repel Millwall’s physicality, the Serb (above) responded with a barely-disguised plea to the Fulham owner with only five weeks remaining until the transfer window opens.
“Millwall sent many long balls into our box. They are solid. They’re bigger and stronger than us in these situations,” he said.
“We don’t have enough tools to find a solution for certain problems.”
In other words, sign me some reinforcements to turn a promising position six points outside the play-offs into a second-half charge for promotion.
Whether Khan listens may depend on Jokanovic cajoling his side through a December fixture list containing just one game against a side currently in the top half of the Championship.
Following the technicolour brilliance of their 5-4 win at Sheffield United last Tuesday, Fulham could muster only an Oliver Norwood penalty against Millwall.
It was, though, enough to leave the visitors winless in their last six games. As positively as Millwall boss Neil Harris tries to spin his side’s performance, it seems that 2018 will offer little other than a fight to say in the division.
Harris said: “We got a standing ovation as we came off, but we’ve got no points. That’s frustrating.”
