Dylan blasts Britain with 80mph winds

-

STORMY Waves in Blackpool STORM Dylan’s 80mph winds and torrential rain caused chaos on the roads before dying away as Britons geared up to greet the New Year.

Northern Ireland and Scotland bore the brunt of gales in the afternoon. The Tay road bridge in Dundee was closed due to 86mph gusts. Ferry services on the west coast of Scotland were disrupted and train services affected.

The Forth road bridge between Edinburgh and Fife was closed to double-decker buses and the Erskine Bridge across the Clyde near Dumbarton was shut to highsided vehicles. Waves battered Blackpool sea front and the west coast of Wales had 70mph gusts at Aberdaron on the Llyn Peninsula.

The outlook this week is wet and windy with a bit of hill snow in the North. Marco Petagna from the Met Office said: “There could be some localised flooding. With westerly winds we could see local coast issues.

“Temperatures generally will be average or a little above. In the range, north to south, of 6-10C. We could see colder weather develop as we go into next weekend.”
