We’ve seen enough of Sue Perkins on our screens to know she can be as emotional as she is funny. So this encounter with rehabilitated laboratory chimps is likely to send her over the edge.

“I have to emotionally pace myself,” she says. “I nearly burst into tears just at the signage.”

The animal lover, who’s firmly against animal testing, is in America to meet a group of female chimps who have recently moved to the sanctuary after testing was banned.

“Is it possible for a 47-year-old woman to be too excited?” says Sue.

There are over 200 chimps at Chimp Haven, and some of the girls are about to move in with a group of boys. To put it mildly, hormones are flying. BBC1, 9pm

JAMES Norton, handsome in a tuxedo, looks a bit like James Bond, which is more than enough to lure us in to this thrilling drama about organised crime.
