CARETAKER IS BULLISH OVER ROLE AT OWLS

- BY ALEX CROOK

ANDREW SURMAN is eyeing a tilt at Wembley after Bournemouth saved themselves from further FA Cup humiliation.

MOTM CHRISTIAN WALTON (WIGAN) LEE BULLEN insists he will remain at Sheffield Wednesday despite Jos Luhukay’s appointment as new Hillsborough chief.

The Dutchman watched this game from the stands ahead of his official start today as an Owls team depleted by injury just about kept themselves in the FA Cup at League Two side Carlisle.

Caretaker Bullen (above) is staying put for the next few weeks at least.

He said: “I had a quick chat with the new manager on the phone and he’s assured me I will stay part of the team, at least for the time being.

“That was pleasing to hear for me because as far as my education goes as a coach, it’s another great learning curve.

“I enjoyed my time under Carlos Carvalhal and hopefully I have a lot to look forward to working under Jos.”

Carlisle boss Keith Curle paid tribute to his side for playing differently to their normal game plan.

He said: “Some of the jobs we were asking the players to do out of possession were slightly foreign. But we worked on it through Thursday and Friday and they showed good understanding.

“To a man, the players understood their roles and they applied themselves to do their jobs. Sometimes work off the ball doesn’t get noticed, but we were filling holes very well.”

Wednesday struck the woodwork twice with Atdhe Nuhiu’s header striking the bar and Lucas Joao hitting the post.
