‘YOU LOT SHOULD BE GOOD AT THIS’
What Beardsley is alleged to have told two Newcastle black players struggling on an activity climbing frame
MIRROR SPORT can reveal the shocking nature of some of the racism allegations facing Peter Beardsley.
The Newcastle Under-23 coach has been accused of racism and bullying by several academy players, and met the club’s hierarchy for a hearing yesterday.
One of the most explosive claims relates to an outing to an adventure activity complex, Go Ape, in Newcastle. Watching two black
players struggling with a climbing frame, Beardsley allegedly said: “Why are you taking so long? Your lot should be good at this.”
It is understood there were witnesses to the incident – and that it was put to Beardsley by chief executive Lee Charnley and head of safeguarding Steve Swinyard at St James’ Park.
Black players have also given statements suggesting Beardsley regularly accused them of being older than they purported to be.
The allegations of racism take in the current campaign and last season.
It is also understood the club are aware of other complainants, who have indicated their concerns but have been too afraid to speak out for fear of being denied the chance to play.
Toon legend Beardsley, 56, is set to come face to face with his players again – including Yasin Ben El-Mhanni, the winger who has made his complaint official – this morning when he is due to take training.
