Boy aged 11 ‘sent to live with Bennell’

- BY PAUL BYRNE

A SCHOOLBOY was sexually abused when football club bosses sent him to stay with paedophile Barry Bennell, a court heard.

The alleged victim said Crewe Alexandra, then managed by Dario Gradi, let boys stay at the youth coach’s Derbyshire home.

In a police interview played in court, he told how he was attacked in a bunk bed aged 11. He said: “I was petrified, sweating.”

He said he was abused up to 20 times more in the next 18 months until he left for Mr Gradi’s home.

Bennell, 64, now known as Richard Jones, denies 48 attacks on 11 boys between 1979 and 1990.

He has admitted indecent assaults on three boys between 1981 and 1991. The trial continues at Liverpool crown court.
