Robins still rocking despite poor results
SKIPPER Bailey Wright insists Bristol City are “full of confidence” going into tomorrow’s visit to Cardiff, despite seeing their promotion bid nosedive in recent weeks.
Lee Johnson’s men have won only one of their last nine league games, but the Australia international defender claims that statistic is misleading.
“Performances have actually been OK,” said Wright. “The frustrating part is that we have got to half time in front in a couple of Championship games, and not seen it through.
“Against Fulham in midweek, we were right back to how we like to play, with a lot of energy. We ticked all the right boxes in that game and might easily have won it in the second half.
“That means we can go to Cardiff full of confidence. We have put ourselves in a position to do something really special this season and there is a lot to look forward to.
“We know what to expect from a Neil Warnock side. He gets his teams organised and disciplined, and we will need to be on top of our game to take something.”
Robins boss Johnson has warned his players to be prepared for some battle scars in the Severnside derby.
The Robins go into the game on the back of a 1-1 home draw with Fulham, which was packed with skilful, entertaining football from both sides.
Now Johnson expects the physical attributes of his players to be put to the test as he locks horns with Cardiff boss Warnock.
He said: “It will be an aggressive game. Cardiff will be very functional, organised, and have a lot of physical players. They make you defend all over the pitch.
“My players will be selected for the ability to bring out their quality in a tough derby environment.”
