Cops’ drone saves man in ditch from icy death
A CRASH victim was spared from freezing to death by a police drone that spotted him lying unconscious in a ditch.
The man climbed from his car after it flipped on its side but collapsed seconds later. As the temperature plummeted below zero, police sent up the drone fitted with a thermal-imaging camera to find him.
Officers were directed to the A16 south of Grimsby, Lincs, and an ambulance took the victim to hospital where he was understood to be recovering from hypothermia yesterday.
Sgt Mike Templeman, one of the first on the scene, tweeted: “Vehicle found A16 on its side, witnesses saw male walking away. Male located in a ditch by the drone.” The officer, known as Tempo, added: “Great result. Great team effort as always.”
Deputy Chief Constable Craig Naylor tweeted: “Great work, Tempo, and drone pilot.”
