Swans in a lifetime!

CARVALHAL AIMING FOR FIRST LAST-8 APPEARANCE SINCE HE WAS BORN

- BY ROB COLE

Swansea v Sheff Wed Kick-off 8.05pm

CARLOS CARVALHAL is looking to take Swansea to the FA Cup quarter-finals – for the first time since before he was born.

Swansea last reached the last eight in 1964 when they beat Liverpool to set-up a semi-final clash with Preston but lost.

Now their Portuguese boss is hoping his old club Sheffield Wednesday go the same way as Wolves and Notts County when they come to the Liberty Stadium tonight so he can keep his side on course for a trip to Wembley.

“I was born in 1965, so it would be the first time in my lifetime that Swansea have reached the quarterfinals if we win,” said Carvalhal (right).

“That is the aim, but if we don’t go to the next round it is not the end of the world. The FA Cup is not a distraction – I prefer to have these games.

“If you have something in your hands, make the most of it, that’s one of the principles of my life. We have the game in our hands and we will do the best we can to win.

“Since I arrived we have lost only one game at home, to Tottenham, and what happened in that game was not fair, but that’s football.

“Since then we have won six games and the Liberty Stadium is a positive place for us.” Having beaten Championship pacesetters Wolves 2-1 in their third-round replay, Swansea then put a record eight goals past Notts County in the fourth round. If they beat Wednesday they will host either Tottenham or Rochdale in the quarter-finals. “We will play with a good side and it will be a team that could play in the Premier League. We can make five or six changes and it won’t be any weaker – we just won’t take any risks with anyone,” added Carvalhal.”
