A funny old way to grow younger

-

Scientists have proved that indulging in regular bouts of laughter makes you look younger. At least, that was the claim on ITV last night.

We were not told whether an absence of laughter can in turn make you look older.

However, I’ve managed to watch the first two episodes of John Cleese’s BBC1 sitcom Hold The Sunset without turning into Brad Pitt at the start of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, so I think we’re safe.

Thanks to the fabulous June Brown, there were plenty of laughs on offer for the other seven celebrities in 100 Years Younger In 21 Days.

Whether she will be able to help the group hit its age loss target remains to be seen – but she’s giving it a good go. She certainly had me laughing out loud when she told a therapist at their Sardinian rejuvenation clinic that her main mission in life was “to make people happy”. That’s June Brown. Who, thanks to EastEnders, has been consistently failing in that mission since 1985.

Game though she is, June draws the line at having a coffee enema.

So up stepped Russell Grant, Claire King, former Catchphrase host Roy Walker and Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder, who in just 20 years has gone from 24 Hour Party People to, “I’ve got an overactive thyroid and I’m exhausted”.

I’ll spare you any further details. Let’s just say when Roy nipped off to the loo to inspect the results I can’t have been the only viewer whispering this instruction/plea:

Don’t say what you see.
