Oscars hits and misses
BEST PICTURE
Will win: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri had a boost from Bafta but the big money is still on The Shape of Water. Should win: Dunkirk but its earlier release means it has lost some spark with voters.
BEST LEADING ACTRESS
Will win: We predict a clash of the kooky titans, with a close race between Three Billboards’ Frances McDormand (pictured) and The Shape of Water’s Sally Hawkins. Should win: Margot “can’t put a foot wrong” Robbie for I, Tonya.
BEST LEADING ACTOR
Will win: We will fight them in LA’s Dolby Theater if it’s not Gary Oldman for his uncanny turn as Churchill in Darkest Hour. Should win: Retiring Daniel DayLewis should probably get a swansong gong for Phantom Thread.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Will win: I, Tonya’s Allison Janney (above) looks set to add to her haul for her enthralling portrayal of Tonya’s mum LaVona Fay Golden. Should win: Allison, and the world might be a better place if The West Wing press chief had the real job.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Will win: Probably Three Billboards’ Sam Rockwell. Should win: Christopher Plummer for reshooting Kevin Spacey’s All The Money In the World role in just nine days – and so, at 88, he beats his record as oldest Oscar winner.
