How to shop well in NYC

A trip to New York is ALL about the shopping but if you are looking to bag yourself a great bargain, head out to the Woodbury Common Premium Outlet, 50 miles north of Manhattan.

It’s a pleasant 60-minute coach ride to the outdoor mall with The ShortLine bus company which offers a frequent daily service from the city’s Port Authority and they also run from 3rd Avenue on the East Side too (about $42 round trip).

My husband Jay and I planned our visit on a Monday so there were no weekend crowds. We arrived at 10am just as the outlet was opening ready for a full day of retail therapy.

With over 220 stores, hitting all of them in one go was going to be difficult. But with military precision we gave it our best shot. Jay and I split to make sure we both found the stores we wanted. All that shopping worked up an appetite and from the many restaurants in the mall we chose Yo! Sushi for a speedy, tasty meal. Refuelled, we carried on shopping till we dropped until the mall closed at 9pm. And you can be sure we didn’t leave empty handed!

TOP TIPS:

Print out a copy of the Mall Map before you go and mark out stores you want to do.

Arm yourself with a VIP coupon, free with your ShortLine bus ticket, or join the VIP Shopper Club and download it online.

Take along an empty suitcase – you won’t be the only one!
